Writing Without Expectations

Releasing yourself from any creative intentions.

Today, Sunday, April 10, 2022, I’ve decided to write without any expectations.

There have been too many days where I set an intention to create a short story to submit to an anthology, begin a new Medium article for publication, write a minimum of 1,000 words, or revisit the shitty first draft of the manuscript I started during NaNoWriMo 2022, but I don’t.

I bite my fingernails, lie down to meditate, or listen to music on my iPhone to decrease my anxiety whenever I open my laptop and/or a new Microsoft Word document. The pressure to

accomplish and succeed in my literary endeavors becomes too unbearable.

I’ll avoid writing like a hostile person or situation when I know I should be embracing my passion.

Going forward, there will be neither expectations nor intentions other than to do something I love and brings me joy.

When I sit down to write, my focus will be engaging in my craft. There will be some days when my writing is good and others where it will suck. Whatever occurs will be fine.

No more pressure to achieve my goal of becoming the best writer I can be. I’m confident to know I’ll arrive at that destination; right now, I want to appreciate the creative journey without standing in my own way.
