Why I Still Write Morning Pages Two Years Later (and What Changed)

My two-year-plus journey of writing morning pages with minor modifications.

Introduction

Back in January 2024, I wrote and published “Kicking Off My Day with Morning Pages.” For those unfamiliar with morning pages, author Julia Cameron of The Artist’s Way suggests to her readers to begin their day by writing three 8 ½” x 11” pages longhand during a twelve-week literary challenge combined with taking yourself out on an Artist’s Date along with additional writing exercises and prompts. After finishing reading Cameron’s Walking in this World back in November 2023, I decided to incorporate this routine into my writing habit.

Remaining Consistent

I have been writing morning pages for over two years without missing a day since 3 September 2023. Instead of expressing my thoughts and feelings onto 8 1/2” x 11” pages recommended by Cameron, I prefer using 6” x 9” journals, which feel more comfortable and convenient for achieving my daily goal.
