Dear Bill,

Happy New Year, my brotha!

Wow, can you believe that 2021 has come and gone? I certainly can, and I have to say it was an interesting one that had its moments of highs and lows like any other. That’s true. I know you spent some time reviewing your year through the above journaling prompt titled Year End Reflections identifying your ten highlights, ten disappointments, three game changers, three things you focused on, and three things you forgot. That writing exercise was one of the better ones you can remember completing. I was proud that you weren’t shy about acknowledging your disappointments and the things you didn’t get around to accomplishing in 2021.

When it came to your creative efforts, I know you were upset about not being more proactive with writing and publishing and/or submitting more of your literary works. Sometimes people don’t want to recognize the bad, including me. I can’t speak for anyone else, but when I think about those matters, I feel disappointed with my efforts and start to engage in negative self-talk, wouldn’t you agree, Bill? I thought so, but that wasn’t the case in 2021. No, it wasn’t because you didn’t allow your thoughts to take you down that self-pity…
