Preparing for NaNoWriMo
National Novel Writing Month (NaNoWriMo) kicks off on Monday, November 1st in less than two weeks.
For those who don’t know what this is, it’s an annual event where writers complete a novel within 30 days. I don’t know why it’s called National Novel Writing Month since participants are creating a rough draft of a manuscript, but that’s just my two cents.
Anywho, I can hear the Jeopardy theme playing inside my mind about whether I’ll sign up again this year. I’ve done so in the past but I’ve never been successful completing NaNoWriMo. I usually wind up dropping out at some point during the month of November sometime between the first and second week. I must give myself credit for my efforts in 2020 because I wound up writing 15,674 out of 50,000 words and writing for more than ten days before I gave up.
If I’m going to enroll in NaNoWriMo, I need to be serious and committed to doing so. There’s no denial that the talent and the enthusiasm exist to complete this literary event. Although I haven’t officially signed up yet, I’m starting to feel the pressure to write between 1,500 to 2,000 words each day via anxious thoughts appearing in my mind and tension accumulating in my shoulders.
