My Personal Hype Playlist
Sharing my motivational song list.
This story was written in response to Chelsea Marie’s Non-Fiction Writing Prompts — Week Thirty-Eight under The Storyteller’s Vault.
Music listening is an excellent technique that some people use to get themselves hyped up before a performance.
I’ve had my moments when I played a particular song for some much-needed empowerment from waking up at 3:30 AM to exercise at my local gym when it opens at 4 AM to preparing to write when I’m struggling to overcome doubt.
There have been numerous tunes I’ve listened to in the past and the present to inspire my spirit ranging from R&B hits like Miki Howard’s “Ain’t Nobody Like You,” Jill Scott’s “Brotha,” and Deniece Williams’s “Free;” to heavy metal hits like Judas Priest’s “You’ve Got Another Time Coming” and Deep Purple’s “Perfect Strangers;” to rock classics like Queen’s “The Show Must Go On” and Survivor’s “Eye of the Tiger;” to smooth jazz songs like Najee’s “Champs Elysees” and Chuck Mangione’s “Give It All You Got.”
I do have a personal list of three songs that are part of my hype playlist for the following aspects of my life: reciting poetry, writing, and exercising.
