Mariah Carey’s “Make It Happen” was set to one-track repeat on my iPhone when I walked into the gym yesterday morning for an invigorating, two-hour workout.
I continued listening to the song throughout the day traveling inside my car and resting at home. The last time I knew I heard the song was one year ago on March 27th. I have an annual ritual of listening to my favorite Mariah Carey songs on that day after discovering that it’s her birthday and mine. Today, the song lyrics captured my full attention as I pulled inside the soon-to-be crowded parking lot.
Although I’m not a singer, I empathized with the financial and emotional challenges Carey encountered before achieving success. Fear and doubt permeated inside my thoughts, and sometimes still do today, especially whenever I sit down to create a literary work. Impostor syndrome has questioned my…
