How Strong Is My Why?
I am a writer. Writing is my superpower.
My passion to write has been existent before I could speak from the stories I was told by my godmother and aunt Rosalind Johnson, who I affectionally refer to as my Aunt Peach. She mentioned me being a child who could spell the words of gas stations like Esso and Atlantic Richfield before I could even say them aloud. My maternal grandmother Mazie Jones was so impressed by this feat that she used to bring me to work at Alexander Wilson Elementary School in West Philly where she taught to show off her amazing and talented grandson to her students and peers.
Why do I love writing? It empowers me to be my absolute, authentic self. I discovered strength, joy, and freedom through expressing my thoughts and feelings onto paper that were and sometimes are difficult for me to do so through verbal communication. My lifetime goal is to be a successful writer whose literary works are making positive impacts through my words. That is evident in my personal mantra that I am fond of saying whenever anyone asks me about my creativity: “Every word I write is an extension of my breath, my heart, and my soul that I want the world to share and to remember long after my life has come to an end!”
