Why I Smile

Feeling unashamed

about my triumph over

insecurities.

Life will have its share of shitty moments. I’ve had plenty where I couldn’t see the light at the end of the tunnel when I was struggling to make it through a particular situation. The one that comes to mind is learning how to manage my depression. Somedays it was a challenge just to get out of bed when all I wanted to do was hide underneath the covers in the darkness of my bedroom. Yes, those were the days, but I’m grateful I overcame that moment in my life through attending therapy and learning to use coping skills like journaling, exercise, and positive self-talk. And that’s one of the reasons why I smile.

Today, I smile to reflect the happiness that radiates inside my spirit from overcoming past adversities.
