I’ve heard celebrities like Les Brown and Viola Davis give speeches about graveyards being full of untold stories about people who didn’t have the opportunity to use their gifts. I do agree with their insight, but I also recognize there are some talented individuals who are alive and not exercising their attributes. I fell into that trap several years ago when I began reciting poetry on open mics and almost allowed negative people to disrupt my momentum due to their jealousy and pettiness. For a while, I stopped writing altogether and became miserable, but I didn’t care. It took a friend’s encouragement to not abandon poetry and to start writing again. I’m grateful I did so because I regained my happiness. Not only does my gift empower me, but it has made a positive impact into the lives of others who have read and/or listened to my words. I will never allow another person nor situation to deny me the opportunity to express my creativity.
Today, I will employ my creativity because I have a story to tell and there may be someone who needs to read and/or hear my words.
