Punches

Being battered and

bruised does not mean it’s time to

throw in the towel.

There have been some events that occurred where I’ve experienced some tough situations that really tested my character from losing my first home to foreclosure to surviving a suicide attempt. 2021 brought its share of challenges too from losing a dear friend of mine who was a fellow poet, brother, and mentor me to testing positive for COVID-19 not too long after the Thanksgiving holiday.

Sometimes I wish I didn’t have to go through these struggles. I’ve had my moments when I wish I could disappear or close my eyes forever, but that’s not an option. I’ve come too far to be defeated, and if nothing else, I’m grateful for their impact in my life. Had they not happened, I wouldn’t have developed the strength and resilience to persevere, survive, strive, and thrive despite the adversity. I’m proud that I’m still standing and ready to keep fighting because the best is yet to come.

Today I give thanks to acquiring and possessing the strength, courage, and resilience to push forward against every struggle encountered throughout my life.
