I believe that every person should pursue his or her passion. Life may throw some unexpected challenges in our path, but that doesn’t mean we have to allow these obstacles to prevent us from living our best lives. I’ve had moments where I felt stuck in situations that made me feel depressed when I decided to place my creative endeavors on hold from bad relationships to poor career decisions, especially the latter. Sometimes it was a struggle to get out of bed on some not-so-bright days just to work at a job that adds to your misery.

Depression can stifle a person’s joy. It makes you feel this is the way things will be and just deal with it. You tell yourself excuses that you don’t have the time to create when you have a family to raise or a mortgage to pay. I went down that road on several occasions when all I wanted to do was lay underneath my comforter and wish my problems would magically disappear so I could be free to write. Through therapy and plenty of journaling, I was able to manage my mental health and discover that no setback is permanent. I also discovered that I wouldn’t honor who I am as an artist by…
