Letting Go
Allow yourself to
be free from the past for growth
and new beginnings.

I recently emptied out a storage unit I rented five years ago filled with my personal belongings when I lost my first home to foreclosure: many boxes of old videotapes, unused utensils, CDs, a few 12“vinyl records, a comic book collection, and hundreds of books. My expectation was to one day purchase a new home where I could place all the items back inside my residence. Unfortunately, the rising cost of the monthly rental fee led to me having second thoughts about that decision. I spent the past Thanksgiving weekend purging all unnecessary items and donating most of the books to Goodwill.
I felt proud of my efforts to accomplish this task, but I had a sense of relief to part ways with things that no longer had any sentimental value. This experience was a great metaphor for me to contemplate completing a self-evaluation for any past thoughts and/or emotions I may be holding onto that are prohibiting me from enjoying and appreciating my life. It won’t be physically taxing as throwing out items, dumping trash bags, and/or lifting boxes, but it will be emotionally, mentally, and spiritually cleansing when I sit…
