Creating the life you want to live requires sacrifice and commitment.

This statement is so applicable for creative individuals, especially for me whose long-term goal is to become the best writer I can be. There will be some days when you will accomplish your goal(s) and others when you won’t do so. Sometimes it can be frustrating for some folks when you set an intention but you fall short due to an unexpected setback.

Last week, a string of several stressful work days took their toll on my well-being, causing me to experience some mild depression and anxiety. I started isolating and not taking care of my personal needs, including exercising, healthy eating, and writing. Fortunately, I motivated myself to return to the gym and had a rejuvenating workout. I started writing again and it felt wonderful to get my creativity flowing.

Sometimes I feel guilty when I get depressed and temporarily stop either exercising or writing. A part of me feels pressured to make up for the time lost of doing something productive rather than wallow in self-pity. The last thing I need to do is to beat myself up for what didn’t happen in the past.
