Crucial

Her hazel eyes illumine

with intense focus upon

his words written in purple ink

between thin grey lines

on tan, 6 x 9 note paper

pressed between her fingertips

dark chocolate skin cheekbones

begin to blush

as emotions accumulate

inside her heart

from curiosity to surprise

caught off guard by

his unexpected gesture

her extroverted spirit

grows reticent

searching for a verbal response

to express her thoughts

of two becoming

more than platonic friends.
